Rules for Participation in the 2027 Heart of Dixie Ride
Motorcycle
- 1. This Ride is a self-guided motorcycle Ride that has stops throughout the state of Alabama. It is designed to be a fun Ride, not a race.
- 2. The Ride is open to all types of two and three wheeled motorcycles (but not autocycles, such as Slingshots). All participants must be at least 18 years old. Riders (motorcycle operators) must be licensed to operate a motorcycle. Riders are to be safety conscious and obey traffic laws. Participants are to register for the Ride via the Ride web page. For a passenger to take part as a Ride participant, the passenger will need to register separately from the rider (i.e. motorcycle operator). When both riders and passenger are registered, both of their tour flags (placards) must be displayed in the photos submitted for both to receive tour stop credit. There is a $30.00 registration fee (per person) to participate in the Ride.
- 3. Registration on the Ride website will open on August 1st, 2026. Registration will close on January 1st, 2027, or when the number of registered riders reaches 2,200 (whichever occurs first). All the Ride Markers will be placed in the mail January 1, 2027. All registrations received after that date will be mailed out within 48 hours of registration.
- 4. Participants in the Ride will visit tour stops that may include roadside attractions, historical sites, memorials, unique geography, bike friendly businesses that sponsor the Ride, and non-profit organizations that the Ride helps support. Our sponsors help make the Ride possible. When you make a sponsored stop, be sure to let them know you are on the Ride.
- 5. For the tour, there will be fifty (50) regular tour stops
- 6. Riders may start riding the tour upon receipt of their tour Marker. The 2027 tour will end on December 31st, 2027. The tour stop locations will be posted on the tour stops webpage. To be considered a Ride Finisher, registered participants must submit qualifying pictures for All Ride stops.
- 7. Registered Riders/Passengers will be provided with a Ride Marker (placard). Each Ride Marker will have a unique number. The participants are to take a picture of their motorcycle and their Ride Marker at the tour stop. Ensure that the picture shows the tour stop in the background (i.e. signage, statue, etc.) and that your ride flag number is clearly visible in the picture.
- 8. If it is unsafe to take the picture, do not take it. If conditions make it impossible and/or unsafe to get your motorcycle in the picture, but you can get a picture of your Marker and yourself in the picture safely, do so and immediately notify the Ride Administrator of the conditions that made it impossible and/or unsafe to take the picture. If you submit a picture without your motorcycle, you and your rally flag must be in the picture.
- 9. Up to (2) of your pictures may be without your motorcycle in the picture. The intent of this is to allow the rider to take a qualifying picture if conditions make it impossible or unsafe to get a motorcycle in the picture. Conditions such as construction, mud, debris, etc. could arise. Therefore, this provision allows riders to still receive credit for up to five stops.
- 10. If you lose your tour Marker you are to notify the Ride Administrator. Upon notification, you will be sent an invoice with the amount of $7.00 for a replacement Ride Marker to be mailed to you. While waiting for your replacement, you may submit up to n (5) stop pictures with a hand-made tour flag. For the hand-made tour flag, use an 8/12 inch by 11-inch piece of paper. Write your Marker number on it with a marker and ensure that the number can be clearly seen in the picture you upload.
- Participants shall submit their pictures via the Picture Submission E mail hodmotorcycle@gmail.com The Ride Administrator would have the final say regarding if pictures submitted meet the requirements of the Rules for Participation. Picture requirements include:
A. Do not upload all your pictures at one time. Upload them as you go.
B. Pictures may only be uploaded in jpeg/jpg format.
C. Pictures submitted shall not be altered in any way by the submitter. A participant that uses photo editing software to alter a picture may be dismissed from Ride participation.
D. Take your pictures in high resolution. Low resolution or thumb nail size pictures often make the Marker number not legible, thus disqualifying the submission.
E. At least three quarters of your bike should be visible in the picture. The tires and the top of your bike should be in the picture. Do not only show the windshield or a trunk.
F. Be sure to check your pictures while still at the Ride stop to ensure that your Marker number is clearly visible. Check for sun glare, fingers covering numbers, grainy picture quality, etc. Submit a good picture so you can receive credit for the stop.
G. You do not need to rename your picture files. If you want to rename your picture files, do not use special characters in the name. Letters and numbers are fine. Special characters in the file name may cause the picture to not be visible when uploaded to the PSP. If not visible, you will not receive credit for the stop. (Bad Name Example: Tour Stop # 15) (Good Name Example: Tour Stop 15)
H. Be very careful to enter your Marker number correctly when placing it in the subject line. If you enter the wrong Marker number, you will not receive credit for the picture upload.
